Navy recruitment video masquerading as a movie (5 years before Top Gun):

Premise of the movie: what if "modern" (1980's) aircraft carrier with a full loadout conducting exercises off Hawaii were to spontaneously travel to December 6th 1941.

The idea behind the movie was by Peter Douglas which is Kirk Douglas (Spartacus) son. Peter Douglas had problems breaking through in Jolly wood as a writer and a director so Kirk Douglas stepped in and asked to play the skipper in that story. Once Kirk stepped in, studios were falling over each other to film it. Navy then steps in and decides to use this movie to showcase all of their latest gear.
