Unable to run windows updates, unable to use firewall

I suspect that there is a malware infection but I am not sure how to fix this. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have uploaded all logs as attached

Hi Argus,

thanks for your help.

I could not uninstall the Ask Toolbar Updater - it said that it might have already been uninstalled. As you said, i clicked yes and proceeded. Of note, there is a seperate programme could Ask Toolbar, let me know if I also need to uninstall that.

When trying to uninstall Yontoo 1.10.02, it would not allow me and gave an error message stating 'Setup initialization error'.

I have done everything else you said. See the attached zoek results.

Thanks
Damien

FRST.gif
Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

icon_exclaim.gif
This fix was created for this user for use on that particular machine.
icon_exclaim.gif

icon_exclaim.gif
Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.
icon_exclaim.gif
Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    FRST.gif
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
    Run as Administrator to start the tool.
    (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

Re-run zoek and run this script:

Code:
createsrpoint;
autoclean;
emptyalltemp;
ipconfig /flushdns;b

I have run this. Of note, Zoek would not close after I had run it. It would re-open and say that it was still running. This was still the case after several hours of no activity on Zoek.

What next? I am still having the same problem

The Security Centre now opens (thank you), and I now have the option to get Windows updates. Shall I check for updates and try to install these?

When I go to turn on the Windows Firewall, I get the message 'Security Center can't turn on Windows Firewall.

Windows defender says it is out of date, shall I attempt to update this?

Ok so I have now completed the windows updates (it took ages)!

I am still unable to turn on the firewall however, I am getting the same error message.

What can I do next?

There is an option to try and manually turn on the firewall. It says that 'Windows firewall is not using the recommended settings to protect your computer'. There is an option to 'Update settings now'. Should I give this a go?

Looking at the updates further, it looks like the majority of these failed to update. There are still 87 'important' updates available. Should I try again?

Ok so I tried installing the 87 updates. Most of these failed, I got down to 83. I then tried to install these again, they all failed, and I am still left with 83. Apologies for the delay but this took ages.

I could not manually turn on the firewall. I used the link you sent and followed the instructions. I still have the same issue and am unable to turn on the firewall.

What else can we try?
