Xbox One Version of Windows 10 Is Called One Core, Gets More Details

The New Xbox One Experience is coming soon
Microsoft's Director of Program Management for the Xbox and Windows Platform, Mike Ybarra, shares some fresh details about the Windows 10 version coming to the Xbox One console and how its emphasis is on speed and functionality.

The Xbox One launched back in November of 2013 and, since then, the Microsoft console's software has seen monthly updates appear with fresh features and all sorts of improvements, based on the feedback the company got from its fans.

The biggest update yet, which changes the firmware to Windows 10, is set to roll out in November under the name the "New Xbox One Experience."

Now, during the regular podcast organized by Xbox Community Manager Larry Hryb, Microsoft's Mike Ybarra, who handles the development of the Xbox One platform, shares a few more details about the impending Windows 10 update, via DualShockers.

First up, it seems that the Xbox One is going to receive a heavily modified version of the operating system called One Core. While it shares the same base as the Windows 10 OS, it's built specifically around the features required by a console like the Xbox One and by its users.

The biggest emphasis was on speeding up not just interface but also the execution of certain tasks. According to Ybarra, there are spreadsheets internally which compare the length of time to perform certain things on the current Xbox One, the old Xbox 360, and the New Xbox One Experience. These show in some occasions a 50% increase in speed, although it's unclear in just what conditions.

Ybarra hopes that more and more Xbox Live Preview members are going to get invited to test out the NXOE update in the future, as a lot of feedback is required until the company is ready to actually release the major overhaul.

Those that are already able to test it can also expect constant updates, in order to add even more interesting things and, of course, fix broken elements.
