Vosteran Search is a browser hijacker that is bundled with other free software that you download off of the Internet. Once installed it will set the homepage and search engine for any installed browsers to http://vosteran.com without your permission.

This itself is not considered malicious as there are many legitimate programs that change these settings as well. What is considered malicious, though, is that it will also append the argument http://vosteran.com to random Windows shortcuts on your desktop and your Windows Start Menu.

Vosteran Search virus

Vosteran Search browser hijacker is bundled with other free software that you download off of the Internet. Unfortunately, some free downloads do not adequately disclose that other software will also be installed and you may find that you have installed adware without your knowledge.

When this browser hijacker is installed on a computer, victims easily become frustrated as when they remove the shortcuts from their browser links, they are mysteriously added back. This is because the Vosteran.com program utilizes a Windows service that hijacks the shortcuts again when it detects if the shortcuts have been cleaned. This is why we first need to remove the program from the computer before we clean the shortcuts.

You should always pay attention when installing software because often, a software installer includes optional installs, such as this Vosteran.com browser hijacker. Be very careful what you agree to install.
Always opt for the custom installation and deselect anything that is not familiar, especially optional software that you never wanted to download and install in the first place. It goes without saying that you should not install software that you don’t trust.
The below instructions are for Windows users, however we also have an Android guide and a Mac OS guide which should help clean up your device.

  11. Went through every step last night and when I turned on my computer this morning up popped Vosteran… Thinking I wasted a few hours…

  12. Great and easy instructions to follow 2.5 hours well spent and now foster an free thanks very much

  13. Thank you so much, Stelian! It took 2 1/2 hours and all 5 steps but I am Vosteran free! Instructions were very easy to follow and I am so relieved. I’m going to make my donation right now!

  14. Most awesome! My one of my BFF’s is from Romania – I hope to go there one day. My father was from Hungary……..

  15. Wow! Thank you so much! I was able to remove Vosteron in just a few minutes with your help. This is a great site. You are the man!

  16. I downloaded Winzip from the official Web site but that caused Vosteron to be installed. I did not realise that even renowned programs can cause viruses. :-(

  17. Excellent and easy to follow instructions. None of the programs found the file. I reset Chrome to it’s default settings which worked. Thank you

  18. Good honest site. Took a little work but finally got “vosteran” and other malware I didn’t even know I had off my computer. thanks a lot.

  19. Thankyou so much. My new computer was going great til I downloaded this with a free download of Adobe Elements. Your method has finally cleared it! What a relief.

  20. Thanks so much! Not only did this work but I was able to cleanse the Vosteran from both my I.E. and Google in just over an hour. So glad I found this site. Now I don’t have to purchase another computer (current one just 2 months young) or pay expensive fee and can throw it back to my co-workers for ribbing me on getting a virus! Now you have received a little reward Stelian!

  21. This method of removing Vosteran malware really worked!! It would be helpful however, to have a discussion on the “proxy server” isue that may arise as you attach the virus. I successfully did step 1 running the Adware cleaner when it appeared. Since I am not a tech person, I thought there was something wrong with my routers. Finally I researched the issue on my husbands computer, and discovered this was a fairly normal event following a virus removal. I think a discussion of this problem should be discussed right after step 1, it was actually very easy to correct. When I used the tools button on IE I did find that the virus had manipulated my settings and had checked the box for the proxy server. All I had to do was unclick it, and I was instantly able to go to the net and run the other 2 programs. Worked like a charm after this step. Another point, I did have to reinstall my printer, but that was a small price to pay for cleaning up this mess without having to pay someone! Thanks again!

  22. Thank you very much for this concise solution! I did everything and Chrome would still open up with the vosteran webpage, but I went to settings, and in the section titled “on startup” I looked at the pages being opened in “open a specific page or set of pages”…vosteran was there, I just deleted it. Seems like everything is back to normal now!

  23. Like others comments I have struggled when I ‘accidentally’ install malware, your blog popped up this time and was easy to follow, plus it worked and I didn’t have to spend hours trying to figure out what to do. I will make a donation and will let others know about your site. Thank You!!

  24. My brother who is good with building and fixing bugs had me run ccleaner and than a avast boot scan and we still didn’t get it. He wasn’t feeling well today so I said i’m going to see what this is since it started up by itself when I started chrome. I found 2 sites who I thought would help until the scan was finished and i was asked to buy the product. Than God had to make me select you. I followed your instructions and that son of a B is gone. Wait until I tell him. he thinks i’m dumb. Well i worked on mainframes for 36 yrs. but laptops maybe im a little behind.. Thank you!.Very impressed with the directions. I will definitely leave you something.Bob from N.J. oh took me 3 hrs, counting the two other sites.

  25. Thanks Stelian! I checked out malwaretips.com on the Norton Community first – it is legit. The instructions worked when followed exactly. I found an additional shutdown and restart useful. Also, there seemed to be a quirk on Google Chrome regarding finding the internet after browser reset, which seems to have been fixed by unpinning the google icon from the taskbar. Make a donation – keep Stelian contributing.

  26. thanks you stelian, i have been trying for months to uninstall this badass , and finally its done , thanks again for your work

  27. Thank you so much Stelian, I can’t ever thank you enough! I had a panic when I couldn’t delete Vosteran Search and then I realized it was a malware. Googled it and found your amazing and very helpful website, thank you! Your steps were easy to understand even though I’m such bad with computers. Greetings and big thanks from Finland!! Janette

  28. Thank you – great instructions! Everyone else who writes instructions should learn from you – this is the way it should be done!

  29. Thank you SOOOoooOOooo much! I was worried until I found your instructions. They’re very detailed and steps are easy to understand. Thanks again!

  30. Whew..took me 1/2 day, went through all the steps…finally worked! I am a computer idiot and the instructions were perfect. THANK YOU!

  31. Hello,

but I don’t see comment so I’ll say it here.
