So how was this done then in simple terms can anyone please clarify, was it from people who seem to want to click the links without even engaging the brain?

Another article covering the same subject mentiones that "Facebook was keen to stress it had not been the subject of a hack." So it seems that the credentials were obtained either through phishing or cracking poor passwords.

"Our security experts have reviewed this data and found it to be a set of
e-mail and password combinations that are not associated with any live
Facebook accounts."

So it means mostly these email accounts from Facebook were disposable.

Even though the accounts are disposable, next time wont the hackers or another group be able to possibly steal active ones? this is another danger of having your information on social networks and other websites

Another reason I don't have FaceBook, or any other social networking site.

Well if the active account made a strong password and less information displayed then a small chance to be hacked.

That is very true, because many users think that if they have a password it will be safe but they need a secure password instead of like "123456" or "password" which are very common and probably calling hackers to hack them lol
