Actually I have used both Vista Ultimate SP2 and Windows 7 home basic on my machine, and believe me i feel both are fast. I think its just a wrong notion that vista is crappy and slow in fact i feel it is as good as windows7. Also you can acess advanced system settings choose Visual effects and select the option called adjust for best performance. IT is believed that Aero makes your pc faster as it transfers graphic rendering from your cpu to your gpu and as the gpu is more capable of graphic processing your pc runs faster. This is only true in case you have a good and fast graphic card. Also in aero the dwm.exe takes more memory. I have heard many of my clients saying that the feel aero is aster while there are few who dislike this funky effects. They term it cartoonish and others use the classic theme as they are well adjusted to it .
