What channels? Are you talking about Netflix? All browsers can stream Netflix up to 1080p, only Edge and Safari can stream 4K (deal with Microsoft and Apple).

The browser itself doesn't have an issue decoding 4k nor is mozila they both have for a very long time already gpu acceleration , hardware decoder support


If there is an issue it would be on the video provider usually it's a drm issue but both firefox and chrome support google widevine drm which is the industry standard for encrypting streams

Because Edge on Windows and Safari on Apple have strict system wide anti-piracy measures enforced due to how they are integrated. Chrome less so and Firefox the least where you can still find ways to screen record DRM content with 3rd party tools.

Because for 4K content on their web app, Netflix requires different version of DRM from the one that is used for 720p/1080p. More specifically they require Microsoft's PlayReady DRM and Apple's FairPlay DRM which you can only find in Edge and Safari.

This is result of partnership between Microsoft, Apple and Netflix to make 4K exclusively available on their respectable browser.

This is complete nonsense. If it was about piracy, then they would use the same DRM for all qualities, not just 4K.
It's limited on purpose so people would use Edge/Safari over any other browser.

You can pirate the same on every browser, Edge doesn't offer any better protection against piracy.

Actually it is all about piracy and absolutely 0% due to some random conspiracy theory you are floating around. Safari and Edge have better OS level integration preventing piracy so streaming sites allow you to watch content in those browsers at a higher quality. Google has all the bargaining power in the world, they could easily comply but they just don't or are very slow to do so.

Let's assume all you saying is true, then;
– why we're able to stream pirated media normally through Edge and Safari?
– why isn't Netflix limiting 720p and 1080p content as well?
– why is Netflix the only streaming service that limits quality depending on browser used?

I have no doubt that hardware DRM has better protection, but if protection is really in question, it would make sense to apply it to all resolutions not just one.
