G DATA researchers discovered a 64.8 percent spike of new malware strains as compared to the first half of 2014. This averages out to 12 new strains per minute. In all, the total number of malware strains this year is expected to be well above the level of 2014, with the U.S., China and France hosting the most malicious and fraudulent websites.

The weak point is the browser and its components and the operating system. Because of OS and browser security gaps (often not resolved by the user by installing the appropriate patch) that many malware can penetrate inside the system.
I also noticed that the most affected sites are those relating to health.
Many users fall victim to social engineering attacks that exploit the weaknesses of people to inject malware.

Hmmm was not expecting health to be the highest of them all, I guess when people are scared for their life they tend to click on risky links that "provides" cures or remedies that "fix" their condition :P

Usually those domain websites have no overall control from those advertisement popups which others may considered 'malvertizing' so its always on user discretion to accept any possible consequences.

Health? No problem, spams about those not ever ending 'viagra' email and other information can easily found anywhere. ;)
