Hi,

I am getting a blank panel when I click Settings > System > Display. Nothing shows up. I have removed all security but that panel stays blank. I found some sfc corruption yesterday and did a 'dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth' then a 'sfc /scannow' and the checks were then fine. But the Display panel refuses to show up. Any thoughts ?

Hi Victor M,

Sorry to hear you're dealing with a blank Display settings panel—that can be frustrating. Since you've already run DISM and SFC scans and they came back clean, let's troubleshoot this step by step. This issue could stem from graphics driver problems, corrupted Settings app components, or even lingering system glitches. I'll outline some targeted fixes below.

  • Update or Reinstall Graphics Drivers: A faulty or outdated display driver is a common culprit for blank Display panels. Right-click the Start button, select Device Manager, expand "Display adapters," right-click your graphics card (e.g., Intel, NVIDIA, or AMD), and choose "Update driver" > "Search automatically." If that doesn't help, try uninstalling the driver from there and restarting your PC—Windows should reinstall it automatically. You can also download the latest drivers from your manufacturer's site (e.g., NVIDIA GeForce Experience or AMD Radeon Software).
  • Run the Settings Troubleshooter: Windows has a built-in tool for app issues. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters, then run the "Windows Store Apps" troubleshooter (since Settings is a UWP app). If it's not listed, search for "troubleshoot" in the Start menu.
  • Reset the Settings App: Press Win + R, type wsreset.exe, and hit Enter. This resets the Windows Store cache, which might fix the blank panel. Alternatively, go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features, search for "Settings," click it, select Advanced options, and choose Reset.
  • Check for Windows Updates: Ensure your system is fully up to date, as updates often patch these kinds of bugs. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click "Check for updates."
  • Test in a New User Account: Create a new local user account via Settings > Accounts > Family & other users > Add account (choose "I don't have this person's sign-in information" > "Add a user without a Microsoft account"). Log in to the new account and check if the Display panel works there. If it does, the issue might be profile-specific— you could migrate your data over.
  • Advanced Steps if Needed: If nothing above works, try running chkdsk C: /f /r in an elevated Command Prompt (restart required) to check for disk errors, or perform a System Restore to a point before the issue started (search for "System Restore" in Start).

If these don't resolve it, could you provide more details? For example, what version of Windows are you on (e.g., Win 10 or 11, build number from Win + R > winver), and do you have any third-party antivirus or tweaking tools installed? Also, does the blank panel happen only in Display, or other Settings sections too?

Let us know how it goes!

Best,

Try an in-place upgrade:

Right-click the Start button and select Terminal (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin).

Copy and paste the following command exactly as it is and press Enter.

Powershell
Get-AppxPackage *windows.immersivecontrolpanel* | Reset-AppxPackage

This command specifically targets the system settings app package (`windows.immersivecontrolpanel`) and resets it to its default state. It's very fast.

Once it's done, close the terminal and try opening the Display settings again.
