An Antivirus can help protect your PC, but is not the answer to protecting a computer. You can help protect your PC and data, by learning about the basics, security, threats and scams.

An antivirus or internet security suite, is just one of many layers of protection. For example, for laptops or other mobile devices, an Anti-Theft piece of software can be installed to help assist lost or stolen devices.

Huracan spotlighted some important points many people can easily take for granted. I might consider (it's now more likely) activating the anti-theft program which came with my lap top.:p
Masud Ahmed, welcome to these informative and fun forums. I am confident you'll enjoy everything the site offers. As you discover more and more !:) In answer to your question, there are many choices both among and separate from anti-virus methods which I'll join in posting about on your configuration thread!:D

exterminator20's wish for you to be 'safe' applies both to your computer and to you, the member whom takes care of his computer!

Hello and welcome to MalwareTips :D

For your question: Antivirus can protect from unexpected situation but not totally, its yourself that provides common sense to avoid those things to happen worse. ;)

The best thing to protect your computer is your own knowledge on how your PC works, and what makes it tick.
