The developer probably wasn't getting much sales over the past few years because of all of the free alternatives.

It did seem like a pricey product, especially nowadays.

I've seen some Browser Ad-Blockers and other Privacy extensions use 'Pay What You Want' schemes, basically Donations(?).

"At some point in the future, I may need to offer complimentary software products to Ad Muncher users" - Going free, this is inevitable.

Yes the free version has not been released yet, if you download the current version it is NOT free.
