One of the crypto currency's I monitor uses a random seed algorithm to solve the Block rather than a standardised, predictable, formula. This makes the use of huge banks of high powered GPU's, all working with the same algorithm, mining coins(Bitcoin) redundant and offers smaller miners with multi CPU, muli thread, systems more opporutunity to propogate the Block, hence spreading ownership/control. Theoretically... Sure, big operator's can have multi CPU rigs but the cost/benefit wanes fairly quickly on low value tokens. And, with the next halving of Bitcoin imminent even they are becoming less attractive to monopolise. Having said that, these Threadripper CPU's are the flavour of the month because of their performance in this area.
