A report published by Gartner a couple of days ago warned that Microsoft is about to lose its dominance in the computing market, especially because tablets and mobile phones are becoming a lot more relevant nowadays.

Analysts estimated that by 2017 Microsoft would no longer be the king of the operating system world, projecting that both Android and iOS would grow a lot in popularity.

But as far as Aaron Freimark, CTO of Apple reseller Tekserve, and Benjamin Robbins, co-founder of Palador, a mobile consultancy firm based in Seattle, are concerned, Windows will clearly remain the leader in the IT world for a long time and both tablets and mobile phones have only slight chances to become a real threat.

“Tablets are being used as companions,” Freimark told TechTarget, explaining that PCs running Windows will remain the main working environment.

“I was stuck in that PC mindset. We really have ingrained patterns in our heads about not only how to work, but how to interact with a computer. Stepping outside of that is frightening. … The first month was really a challenge. I really had to stop and think about what I was doing,” Robbins added, pointing out that many users find the transition to mobile devices very difficult.

believe in the death of an OS that covers millions of corporate's computers worldwide...? seriously...another "i-wanna-create-a-buzz" article...

Microsoft came really prominance from their Operating System, even the first ever graphical version; it only adapts through modern technology but as where they start will be maintaine until the end.

However no one could kill Windows easily and its not an instant way that other OS step up through market shares with popularity.

Also its known for ease through masses.

Linux tried, Apple tried, all failed to stole the market shares of Micro$oft...so i dont mind too much for Bill.

I'm sure Windows will loose some market shares to mobile OS but still will remain dominant. I have a tablet with Android and I hardly ever use it after buying it because it is so limited to just basic functions. I then bought a laptop with Windows 8 and love it and use it much more.

But still I prefer the Desktop where I can have a large display and set in my comfortable reclining office chair have my keyboard and mouse in comfortable reach at my desk.

Using my laptop for extended periods cause my back to hurt, stuff neck, muscle craps all over my body, etc. I still have not found a way to make using my laptop as comfortable as using my desktop. So I most certainly doubt that mobile OS will replace the work environments or even home users because people like comfort.

Thanks.:D

Same here but had to quit sitting at my desktop due to it hurting my back. May give those Google glasses a try.

That's just like saying, "Can anyone kill Google?"

There would be no way Windows will ever die. It will be used long into the future.
