Major new test of Android security apps shows that less than half provide effective protection – Out of 204 mobile apps tested, the majority were dubious, unsafe or ineffective.

AV-Comparatives have released their report on the biggest-ever test of Android security apps and their effectiveness against Android malware. The independent testing lab put 204 Android AV apps to the test against an array of common threats, and found that some are much more effective than others. Less than 1 in 6 of the apps tested defended against all 2,000 malicious apps, while over a third failed to reach a block rate of even 30%.

Malwarebytes scored 87.2% and is much better than Zemana 78.8% although they are not strictly classed as AV but AM

:)

when 90% of the market is above 95%, you know the test is a joke.

Eeeerm, no. Ever thought the situation on mobile is not the same as on Windows? Malware has a much more limited scope of reach, much more limited spreading and it's not even nearly as complex as Windows one. What is more worrying is that half of the tested apps didn't even achieve 90%...

Also, a bit weird seeing Panda so low given how good they are on Windows. You'd expect they have the magic sauce on Android too. So, this also proves the test is not a joke and that some are just that good.

why PDF instead complete html topic? lack of seriousness offering downloads to see results inside a pdf.
They could improve even adding comparative results on youtube with a narration, not to try of that way again.

I see that Bitdefender scored 100%, wow, and my other security app: Malwarebytes scored 87.2% almost perfect:love:

Comprehensive range of genuine and dubious Android security apps tested.

"To help owners of Android devices to distinguish between genuine and effective Android antivirus apps on the one hand, and dubious/ineffective ones on the other, AV-Comparatives have again tested the effectiveness of antimalware programs for Android, in the 2018 Android Test."

Google definitely need to better their game to protect Android users.

IntelliAV is among the top!!! [NOTE] We have not trained our ML model on any 2017 malware samples and we achieved 99.2%. This shows that Android malware have not evolved significantly in 2017.

The IntelliAV developers look like from Italy. Not much info on the net. It seems they don't have a company

Only manage to find a paper on it

IntelliAV: Building an Effective... (PDF Download Available)

On Google Play Store it's stated

IntelliAV is a DISTINCT Anti-Virus for Android. It is fully based on Machine Learning which is a type of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

IntelliAV provides an effective defense against novel malware, for which signatures are not yet available. Moreover, It doesn't need frequent updates.

Well this and results from previous years tend to indicate that achieving optimal protection is easier on Android. A lot of 100% protection free and paid AVs to choose from.

Thanks for the share (y)

CIA funded Lookout Mobile Security has really fallen.. They used to be a big player early on in the mobile market.

I knew Dr. Web Security Space for Android was really good, this affirmed that. Bullguard is my second favorite. F-Secure is good but drains the battery WAY too fast to the point we found it unusable. AhnLab is right on top, no surprise, that's one of my top picks.

AVCompanies, you also should take a look at alternative stores, someone of them, like Apt..., is not only spreading piracy content, that many sites do, but during last Summer, I also found 0day malware, mostly for Chinese market there.
