Anonymous and its LulzSec appendage have declared war on PayPal and urge people to close their accounts with the online payment service as soon as possible.

In a joint communiqué posted online, the hacktivists condemn the recent arrest of its supporters and reiterate their opinion that LOIC-powered DDoS attacks are the digital equivalent of real-world sit-ins.

"What the FBI needs to learn is that there is a vast difference between adding one's voice to a chorus and digital sit-in with Low Orbit Ion Cannon, and controlling a large botnet of infected computers. And yet both of these are punishable with exactly the same fine and sentence," the groups write.

Because DDoS attacks against PayPal are at the center of FBI's investigation into Anonymous and because the company continues to withhold funds belonging to WikiLeaks, the hacktivists have launched a campaign against the online payment service provider.

"We encourage anyone using PayPal to immediately close their accounts and consider an alternative. The first step to being truly free is not putting one's trust into a company that freezes accounts when it feels like, or when it is pressured by the U.S. government," the hacktivists write.

The #OpPaypal hashtag has been actively circulated on Twitter and some users replied with screenshots of their closed PayPal accounts, however, the hacktivists might have more in mind than just relying on people's activist spirit.

This is just getting stupid... These hacking groups really need to be shut down. They're just acting more and more like an organized crime syndicate. They are rapidly becoming exactly the type of bully that they originally set out "free" people from...

Agree completely.. Innocent people are going to be greatly affected by this.. An example of this is many 501c3 charities that rely upon Paypal to receive donations and support for the work they do..

The main problem is that at this point time , their isn't a global law enforcement agencies that can fight this guys. The Anonymous and LulzSec members aren't from just one country , so in order to take down this groups, the current law enforcement agencies from around the work need to together, synchronize and share information in real time, which is easy to said but not so easy to actually do.
Recently the International Cyber Security Protection Alliance (ICSPA) has been set up to fight cybercrime on a global scale so that's a good step in the right direction.
Their is also the need for some solid laws regarding this type of crimes , because arresting them won't really matter if you don't have a clear law which a judge can use to convict them.

I highly doubt that this guys will manage to get their hands on the PayPal users accounts data, what is to be expected in worst scenario is a DDoS attack which will put PayPal site out for a few hours....

Friends, LulzLizards and enemies around the globe,

The hateful fiends at PayPal have unleashed FBI sea dogs to hunt down some of the more beloved members of our battlefleet. That is why we have decided to raise anchor and leave harbour for one final journey on the seven proxseas....

+1 to the FBI....

I don't know to them why they are doing this, is because they want to put them in the news again that they hack Paypal.

Good to see FBI and that group were not succeed.

I think they have made a pretty good choice to go after Paypal, Visa etc for stopping donations to Wikileaks. Also Julian Assange has been in home arrest for 6 months and has not been charged with any crime.
