Thanks for sharing your perspective! It's always good to do thorough research before choosing any service related to privacy and anonymity.

Nothing more and nothing less. As with everything else take what I say with a massive grain of salt.

If your intent for these services is akin to a less nosey version of Google. Then carryon.

Yes, I was looking for a posted link to help back this "warning" up.

I apologize for being cryptic; since this was only my take on things and initially I didn't want to paint a target on my back by condemning a political party. However, as anyone who has worked in IT knows, the company leans towards the preference of the CEO. IT departments have no say in what they do....main cause of cyber security data leaks/loss.

We certainty do not want you to have a target on your back, or anywhere else, as Gary Larson of The Far Side pointed out 😅

Privacy and anonymity for Proton VPN user's vs Proton preferring one political party over another seems completely irrelevant at this moment in time. I don't think we should speculate such things in MalwareTips of all places unless Proton starts censoring things, selling user data, etc.

hence I said to take my opinion with a huge grain of salt.

Personally, if I were a reporter trying to break a uncomfortable news I would not relay on their service to keep me safe. but again that's just ME talking. In the end everyone has a bias so there is no service on this planet that is truly neutral and safe from being witch hunted. This is just a WARNO to be vigilant and not get too comfortable.

Yes, but the Intercept article had some interesting information IMO (fwiw).

I personally don’t mind if a company expresses support for a particular party or public figure. What matters to me are the facts, and the actual practices reflected in their systems and terms of service.

They could support Putin or Zelenskyy for all I care—as long as the software or product delivers what it promises, that's what ultimately counts for me.

That said, I have to admit—as a German myself—I find it increasingly difficult to trust companies or decisions made in Germany. Especially when people are quickly “voted out” or canceled simply for expressing sympathy toward a political party.

Right now, it feels like Germany is being run by liars and frauds. Sure, Trump’s actions aren’t right, and Putin’s certainly aren’t always either, but there's always another side to the story. You simply can't please everyone. 😄
