Engadget: Samsung beaten to the punch on the next-gen mobile screens
While Samsung said in January that it's hard at work on a QHD (that's 2,560 x 1,440) AMOLED panel, it won't be the first to show one off. That honor goes to AU Optronics, a Taiwanese display company that makes screens for numerous device manufacturers, Samsung included. The 5.7-inch display squeezes in 513 pixels-per-inch, the most of any organic panel yet.

AUO pioneers in releasing the world's highest resolution 5.7-inch WQHD AMOLED panel for smartphone with resolution as high as 2560×1440 and 513 ppi to deliver brilliant images that are extremely crisp and full of details. The ultra slim 5-inch HD720 in-cell touch AMOLED panel is only 0.57mm thick. AUO applies special driver design to increase touch sensitivity and as a result can support 10 touch points. In responding to the latest trends in wearable devices, AUO capitalizes AMOLED's slim, high contrast and power-saving features to develop 1.6-inch Wearable AMOLED panel for smart watches. It addresses consumer needs to wear for long periods of time and use in the outdoors.
