For me Bitdefender is has more system impact than Avast.Top 3 should be Avast!,ESET and Emsisoft.

So lower is better... Always thought of Kaspersky as the heavy tasking AV..

Weren't there reports for months now that Avira has been slowing up? 0.2 is crazy fast. F-Secure surprised me, because I barely felt it when I used it. I love KIS, but I don't understand why it's so ahead of programs like Emsisoft performance wise.

I think it varies a lot from system to system.
For instance, lots of people swear by ESET, but for me it makes my computer into a mediocre machine.

I had Emsisoft for quite some time it is very user powered however recent updates [edited] a bunch of things example origin and steam download and stability. I need to choose a replacement being that I built some malicious worms when I was younger I know what to avoid however always good to have a backup in case I mess up. My choices come down to the three major.

Kaspersky Internet Security
ESET SMART SECURITY
Bitdefender Internet Security.

@Virus1x - it's the greater emphasis on user interaction that slips it up in tests. That's unfortunate, too, because it doesn't mean the product is incapable of blocking those threats. You can say the same thing about any other product that's not just "set and leave".

I could also go back to Pure Unix/Linux however I cant game much on it :/

N.E-Ways any thoughts?

You have a few routes to take. If you're willing to shell out the cash, APPGUARD. You put that sucker on lock-down mode, nothing is going to execute unless you allow it to. However, if you're short for cash, NoVirusThanks or Voodooshield both have free versions and work well.

Edit: if you want to discuss it further, PM me, otherwise I don't want to derail the thread.

ESET footprints, yes its true.

Avira well let's accept it however inconsistent on some systems.

Windows Defender by default components is not fully optimized especially if 3rd party programs influence it. For me the performance of it seems fine and decent; slowdowns are so minimal.
