AVAST 2016 (build number 2016.11.1.2253).
This update brings originally premium feature - SafeZone browser also to all free users.

What's new:
+ SafeZone browser is now included also in free version
+ Avast program updates are now automatic and silent by default - can be changed via Settings->Update
+ Faster computer startup
+ Fixed issues with Firewall on Windows 7
+ Fixed postpone function on restart dialog
+ Fixed starting Pay mode in SafeZone browser
+ Better notification about email signatures

1. Update from existing Avast version via Settings -> Update -> Update program

Played around with this new Free version in VM, it's OK, but SafeZone is only secure explicitly in Pay Mode.

• Keyboard Logging - Protected in Pay Mode, but not in a non-protected tab of SafeZone.
• Clipboard Logging - Protected in Pay Mode, but instantly exposed in a non-protected tab of SafeZone, even without Ctrl+V (Paste) command.
• Screen Capture Logging - Protected in Pay Mode only.

Zemana and SpyShelter Test Tools used.

Further tests and reviews are required before deploying on Windows 8.1 Pro VM.

What is Pay Mode?
I mean is there a SafeZone & a SafeZone Pay Mode?

Yes. SafeZone is the custom browser, Pay Mode is an integrated part of the browser, that makes it secure against keystroke loggers, clipboard loggers, screen capture loggers (or possibly more?) for sensitive sites such as banking, shopping etc.

Test it in a VM to see for yourself. SafeZone can be accessed from the Desktop shortcut, but not from the Avast UI.

I'm wondering if this is why when I last installed Avast, a restart result in a BSOD. It effectively made my system a brick that I could not restore because I only had a boot option added for Macrium Reflect and the BSOD happened far before I got to that point...
