Troubleshoot Avast (& others) Missing Detections Found by Hitman Pro

Hi, everyone. I'm new here and I hope this is the right place to ask this question.

Some months ago I was experiencing a problem with Photoshop CC 2017 and someone suggested that it might be a virus. They also suggested I try Hitman Pro to get rid of it. It turned out it was a virus and Hitman Pro solved the problem. The thing is none of my other security/anti-virus/anti-malware picked up the problem. My scans always don't find anything and Spybot Search and Destroy only catches a few things at best. This was the case at the time of the problem I was having with PS. If I didn't have Hitman Pro I would still be having the problem. But now my trial period with Hitman Pro is over. I can run a one time scan and it detects problems, but it doesn't let me fix them. My question is how do I get my programs to pick up on these detections that Hitman Pro found? Or is there a free-ware version of Hitman Pro or some kind of similar program that I can use to fix these issues? Every time I had the issue in PS Hitman Pro would take care of it and PS would run fine again. I'm nervous that if I get the issue again my security programs won't take care of it because they don't find it. What can or should I do?

Thank you.

Purchase a license for HitmanPro if it works well for you?

Different security vendors have different malware research teams and thus intelligence may vary which will affect detection. Whilst there is no "best" security product, some vendors will flag samples which others may miss and vice-versa. That's just how it is.

In my opinion, you should focus on educating yourself on cyber-security and start applying good and safe practices as best as you can. It's just as much your own responsibility to keep your system safe than the security software you're using for real-time protection - focus on prevention than clean-up and keep a system image backup to revert back to for when you do become compromised.

after the trial expires, you have to buy the license in order to use HMP to remove malwares but you can use it to remove malwares manually

for alternatives, I recommend zemana antimalware portable and emsisoft emergency kit portable
they are completely free and never require any fee. The detection rate is similar or sometimes better than HMP

note that not every detection is virus. HMP detects a virus doesn't necessary mean it's a virus

Buy it. If I bought 10 licenses to HMP, you can certainly buy 1, right? There are sales and discounts for it from time to time. The reason I pay for it is it's quality goods and my favorite on-demand second opinion scanner. Especially since Zemana detection's seem to have dropped in recent months.

Enable Early Warning Score, in HMP, it is a handy asset for those with enough experience.

As for the OP, none of these applications can maintain 100% all of the time. If HMP helped you, break down and buy a license, not only will you have it at your back, but you support the developers doing so.

If you buy HMPA it comes with the HMP scanner. But you have no control over the latter's settings.

@ForgottenSeer 58943 - love my Chromebook. All I added was a couple extensions (https everywhere and an ad-blocker) . Two years with ZERO Security problems. And yes, I do have Privacy locked down. (y)

We're digging them here, thanks to @Lockdown getting me on the ChromeOS kick.

It's one system my wife and kids haven't been able to blowout. My wife takes her notebooks everywhere due to work situations, and is routinely under assault. Chromebooks have proved bulletproof with respect to her. When we travel all we take are Chromebooks and I worry not about security on the move. It's a great feeling.

I own HMPA but I am using it as HMP for now.. HMPA was incredibly annoying to use, and tended to cause a lot of system issues for me so I had to nix it. Also, G Data folks tell me HMPA can cause some serious chaos with G Data and they strongly discourage using it with 2018, it might break the BB functionality in G Data.

I use Neverware to make endless keygen Gmail accounts, then use those, rotating them out every so often. But guest accounts work fine too. (y)

I gave my parents and my inlaws a chromebook for Xmass since I was honestly tired of fixing their #####, The Ubuntu system I gave them in 2007 ran out of updates and it's no longer suported. So chromebook and Apple Ipad from now on. I mean since I gave them Ubuntu in 2007 w/o telling them the admin password it has been a smooth sailing (sometiemes I would ask them to one time sratch SSH keycode to me so I could update).

I envy you for convincing them to do this. My inlaws are endlessly infected, I am tired of fixing their ##### to the point they don't ask me anymore. My mother I don't have to worry about, she has absolutely no modern electronics, no computer, no cell phone, just pen and paper. The joke is, she could be an ex-CIA or something. My wife was always a problem, but that's been fixed up and I an ecstatic!

But please keep in mind that HitmanPro will flag a lot of programs that are not necessarily malware. Lots of false positives. If I would delete everything HMP flags, I would lose some of my best programs.

Windows is troublesome. But it is appealing that anxiety is completely formatted.

Windows and Windows Security is an entire subset hobby of IT. It's often fun, challenging, and you get to try new products and placebos. Always another threat to worry about and that worry keeps you busy.

Let's face it. Secured operating systems are boring. They just work. They are just secured. So you can do what you want to do on the system with relative impunity. However, that can become boring, don't you think? Sort if in the way a slow pontoon boat on a lake is.. Mundane, safe, no chance of anything happening other than you motoring along slowly. But that dual 400ci Pachanga on the lake will kill you if you handle it wrong, it's rife with danger and it's exciting.

I think I might be bored out of my mind with fully secured OS's and nothing left to do. We had a client with a total Linux Infrastructure. Months.. Months.. More months went past before any issue, and the issue was a bad Chrome extension.. That's managing 500 systems... Yawn...

Now if you have 'nuisance' people using 'nuisance' operating systems, like my Wife, or inlaws and you WANT them to become boring, please by all means, direct them to a Chromebook so you can reclaim your peace. But you might get bored!

The danger of Windows is also interesting.
If translation is not wrong, you can understand your opinion. Pc that is guaranteed to be used safely may be like a big calculator. However, in the case of a person who uses software on Windows OS and does something work, I think that the reason is slightly different.

Somewhat. Really what I meant was - there is excitement in risk, and windows brings risk.

If he is debating buying HMP, I wonder if he is paying for Photoshop CC 2017 which is actually horrendously expensive.

Cracking CC2017 will only lead to malware infections.
