Batman: Arkham Knight a Disaster on PC

That's been the trend for a while, especially with franchises and "AAA" companies.

Steam sales for this gamer...proven, finished, don't-pay-more-than-I-have-to for fun games that work...

This triple AAA company in all their wisdom hired a third party to do the port to PC!
Get your act together WB games!!
We are not all console freaks!!:p

Seriously, save yourself some time, money, and aggravation and only buy a game if it:
  • Has been out for a few months and you get actual consumer gamer reviews to vet your purchase, not paid-for-Big-Media reviews
  • Is at least 50-66% discounted; normally I go for 66% discount minimum unless it is something I really, really want, in which case I'll settle for a 50% discount. Restraint is easy since SteamLeft.com says I have 7,104 continuous gaming hours unplayed in my library--and that's not counting all the non-Steam games I have. I really don't need to buy another game, probably ever, heh
Have your cake and eat it too!

No game should be a ported. Period. And a high end gaming machine means nothing. Game needs to be made properly. Simple as that. Some engines take way too much resources while other take less and run smoother and allow higher quality at the same time. As long as developers get that money they simply don't care... everyone gets screwed when their device has a game ported to it. How you think I felt when a game was ported to Xbox? Not everyone is a PC freak.

I enjoy PC gaming primarily for the extra quality that I get versus console!
Having said that I have many port over games that run buttery smooth!;)
This game was outsourced to an incompetent third party for the port over, and was not optimized correctly for PC!!
Cheers!:)

Quality (I assume you mean graphics) isn't my cup of tea (this should be obvious about me by now). I'm not going into the whole console vs. PC crap. Most are always "if you don't like what I like, then go to hell". It's the kind of thing that pushes me to leave sites for good... which I have... about 12 times. Let's all cause anger instead of just playing games and have fun.

Back on topic though. Porting should be a straight forward process that should be done by the developers themselves as outsourcing only leads to terrible quality. While most ports run fine, there are a large amount that don't. All they are worried about is the money now. Gaming will die at this rate. And it's not just the developers doing it, it's the gamers to.

Outsourcing itself isn't a problem; whom they hired (whether from within or not) was the problem. Maxis wasn't outsourced when they made SimCity.

Actually, that wasn't the problem either, the willingness to release a garbage product (regardless of how it got there) is the problem. Of course, consumers who make excuses for this by treating software differently than every other product in existence enables this.

Sure, in a minimal set of circumstances, I can expect an occasional bug and I will expect it to be fixed in a reasonable amount of time; however, I cannot accept a broken or incomplete product. "Fool me once...

re: "Quality" I hope meant overall quality of the game. "Graphics" can be a nice touch and can enhance the experience but play no real part in gameplay. This, I think, is a difference in priorities between a PC/computer gamer and a modern console/TV watcher gamer.

If quality is overall quality, then PC is no better than console and console is no better than PC. That part is reliant on the developers game being good or not. It's pretty much the experience that you get is what differs which is dependant on personal preference. Example: I can only play RTS games on PC. Mouse and keyboard just gives it better control. Some might like controller. No big deal.

I have an Xbox 360 controller (Logitech F710) on my PC for the rare occasion that controller is better. Do consoles have a mouse, keyboard, custom controllers (Logitech G13, flight sticks/HOTAS, etc.)?

Many games are better with developer- and user-created mods.

Windows 10 has Xbox built into it, for us "PC freaks" (you started it neener, neener!), who shake our heads at "auto-aim", "aim-assist", et. al. We can aim all by ourselves, up a hill, both ways.

Seriously speaking, the user experience isn't the same and the library of games isn't the same; the target audiences are different. Unless one is trying to figure out which platform to commit to, comparing the two isn't productive.

Mods may soon come to Xbox and mouse can be used for some games. The only reason why I used the term "PC freaks" is because "console freaks" was used. Deal with it bud. You started this one. If you are a fanboy then we are done talking. You clearly didn't look into Xbox mods potentially being supported or a Xim 4, etc for keyboard and mouse support for Xbox and PS4, nor do you realize Windows 10 can only use very insignificant features that doesn't even begin to have what Xbox has, nor ever will. And yes, Xbox DOES have custom controllers. Look them up. As for auto aim... most games don't have it, and most people don't want it. It is forced. I've played some PC games that had auto aim via aim bot. Guess you guys like it huh? Otherwise it wouldn't exist.

It's incredible that I go and agree with someone and say it's about about choice and preference (because IT IS) and crap then you get crapped on by someone. Not happening.

As for the audience, they both target all ages. After all they both have rated E games, etc, and of course they don't have the same games. Some games are made only for console, some only for PC. It's either an exclusive, or the developer doesn't want to put them on all. Simple as that. It isn't they can't.

This isn't personal, no need for all the personal attacks. I just don't agree with your assertion that PC and console provide the same experience and therefore, "X is as good as Y" is an impossible comparison.

Mods have been available for computer games since computers had games; for many a gamer, that matters. For a typical console consumer, they just want to turn it on and play and they get exactly that--which is not the PC experience: the first several hours I spend with a new title is spent tuning the video driver settings, ensuring I get the best appearance at a solid 60FPS, disable intros and other nonsense, look for engine tweaks that are commonly recommended, check for must-have mods, hacks, etc. I can see where some would think that is crazy.

"Audience" doesn't only refer to age groups; it's far more complex than that. Put it this way: I see console gamers more like facebook gamers than like computer gamers. FB/console gamers largely want to be entertained more passively; computer gamers find entertainment by actively beating challenges. I'm not making a value judgement here, just pointing out that the two platforms serve two different purposes. It would be almost like comparing a wood screw against a sheet metal screw.

When I mentioned "console freaks" it was not a statement meant to be sarcastic or inflaming!;)
I have a PS4 and enjoy it very much!I just prefer gaming on the PC!
I still stand by the fact that the port over should have been tested, and tested again before released on PC!
No excuses on the part of WB games!
Otherwise don't even bother announcing it for PC in the first place!

My post was not meant to be an attack on console gaming/gamers
Thanks!!:)

Oh! so YOU started it! :p

Well, see, this is what happens when you let that console garbage make its way into PCs! <kidding!>

Seriously, though, any product should pass a proper QA standard. Since many companies don't do that (the bigger the budget, the bigger the chance of that happening), it's best just to wait and see and let the other guy find out the hard way.
