I am not sure I am in the right place. First time poster. I currently have a Bitdefender box 2 running my home. Is there another product out there that will be better than it for home security for all devices?

Bitdefender Box 2 is indeed a solid choice for home network security. However, alternatives like Norton Core, Cujo AI, and Firewalla also offer robust security features. It's best to compare these based on your specific needs and budget.

Antivirus solutions BOX are no longer on the market. F-Secure also had one, but discontinued it.
There are brands like Netgear or ASUS that have partnerships with publishers (often Trend Micro) that can help you replace your Bitdefender Box :)

Maybe Netgear Armor powered by Bitdefender, unless you want to try something other than Bitdefender?

Wow somewhat surprised to hear that! I had original BD Box & a Box2 a few years ago (can't find my notes about it). I thought BD stopped that project with Box2 a few years ago. Is it still a supported product? I think there are some routers that offer IoT security. I have a Ubiquity Unifi router with IoT security, and Gryphon has (had) something IIRC. I think a few others do too, but do not know which ones, but above posts sound correct.

Yep, you're right, Bitdefender did stop selling the Box 2, and now points people to using, buying the Netgear Armor version. You can still renew your current Box 2 subscription, just not buy it.

sophos firewall software can be used without any subscription for home use so that's probably a good alternative

OMG the misinformation at this place is pathetic.

Bitdefender Box 2 is no longer being manufactured but it is still supported by Bitdefender and users can renew their subscriptions indefinitely. Bitdefender has made no statement that it intends upon dropping Box 2 support.

Here is an image from the most recent Box 2 webpage:

If I mis-spoke, sorry, I have no recollection why I discontinued BD Box2 -- I went to Ubiquity a few years ago, but think I had stopped using Box2 even before that. I recall BD Box could be finicky. I recall being on phone with BD a few times, especially with setup... Also a tad curious perhaps that BD did not urge me to renew subscription to Box2, perhaps that was a good thing, who likes to be annoyed.

It is Bitdefender so it is expected to be buggy.

Bitdefender Box 2 is the official Bitdefender product.

NetGear Armor "Powered by Bitdefender" is just what you would expect, a white-labeled mish-mash of NetGear and Bitdefender. Check out some of the router and mesh wireless prices. All those Wifi 7 routers are a consumer rip-off because most consumers are lucky if they are on Wifi 6.

There is nothing that NetGear produces that is worth the money that it asks for its products. NetGear has one of the worst track records as far as firmware updates and a host of other problems with its devices.

Netgear or ASUS. Probably the best two consumer brands. I'd choose ASUS due to firmware updates or if Merlin is supported. There is really no need to buy a enterprise firewall like a Cisco with a subscription unless you want to practice networking for a job or need it for study. Maybe try a Ubiquiti, they seem to be popular for Wifi networks. Or Mikrotik if you want more advance settings.

Take it from someone who once bought a Fortinet firewall :poop:10 years ago for security. Oh my what a doozie ... We all make mistakes right 😎? That router must have so many implants it probably craps itself before booting

Agree! fwiw I had cisco meraki system before my ubiquiti, iirc cisco cost 2x+ more than ubiquiti & imo ubiquiti is as good (perhaps) better than cisco, but I have no data to back that up, just my user experience with both. If they were the same cost, I'd still go with ubiquiti.

Buying a commercial/enterprise firewall appliance, switches, routers, etc - it's good as a learning exercise and for "labbing," but not much else unless the person wants and intends upon investing a lot of time and effort into the project. In the end you compare the time & effort versus the benefit, and that equation is not a very good one (negative) for most people.

People in IT that are seeking OEM/hardware certifications usually are the ones to purchase firewall appliances and such, like Fortinet, HP, Cisco, etc. They have to otherwise they will never pass the certification exam(s).

Edit: You have to purchase brand-new, never used. So it is expensive. After market reselling of used enterprise hardware is a very risky roll of the dice. Still expensive and often you lose your money.
