New Update Bitdefender Free Antivirus is back

In BitDefender free version why does it takes more than couple of minutes to do an update. Other AV do this in less than 10-20 seconds.
Maybe also the update process is a bit slow and uses some % of CPU. However I heard inside Bitdefender that they are working to improve performance in some areas, working on some processes including the update phase. So it is likely that in the next updates of the program some improvements will be implemented from this point of view.

I understand that they are not enabled, since I saw a review of the free version against the pro version and the free did not protect against scripts and did not have memory scanning either.

I know BD free does scan scripts, maybe you can't activate it but it is enabled (hidden)
Proof is also in video test made by Shadowra.

Mod Bitdefender :
To clarify here, the advanced options under the Shield are locked in the free version and this means they cannot be customized, however, they are actually up and running.

It's like what you would find in a game where you need to unlock the next levels to play on the full map.

Can you link to that review
Very similar, but the pro version protects the system a little better.
It won't let me put the link, but watch it on this channel. Greetings.

The scan script option means AMSI. BD free doesn't have AMSI integration unlike the paid version. BD free can scan scripts using their own script emulator but not via AMSI.
I verified this again recently after @Nunzio_77 got incorrect information from the BD support team.
So, BD Free is slightly weaker than BD paid because features like AMSI, Command Line Scanner, Memory scanning are not available in it.

Basically Kaspersky free is probably the better choice as a free av since it has all the features as the paid product except customization
But hmmm for most users either will work well

Kaspersky free has been withdrawn from the market, it can no longer be downloaded but keeps working if you had installed that previously

BD Free users, how are you finding it?

In my opinion, it's currently one of the best free AV programs, if not the best.

Among the best free AV programs left (including real-time protection):

Bitdefender Free
Avast Free
AVG Free
Avira Free
Windows Defender
360 Total Security

In my opinion, BD Free is the most secure, reliable, and runs quietly in the background without bothering you with unnecessary pop-ups, etc.

Sure it always been install & forget, but for low end pc i would go with avast/avg probably. On high end system bitdefender is fine, i just call it bugdefender, because i always run into problems with it, so i have avoided it for years now
But if it works for someone it works, and thats good thing (y)

I had a problem with BitDefender in 2024. I wanted to trial it. When I went to install the download, it was NOT in English. When I reported it to tech support they sent me a link for the download. THAT download also was not in English. I gave up and moved on.

It's definitely been improved, and I'm not seeing as many bugs as you say. Also, reading the Avast forum, many people report numerous Avast bugs. So, obviously, it always depends on personal experience and the PC's specs, and I don't think Bitdefender Free is full of bugs and slows down even older PCs.

Avast is the second to Bitdefender in bugs; true, Avast also has its share of bugs.
