They mean recommend avast free antivirus, disgusting. Why hide it like this. Just speak open about it. That not the way i like it.

hahaha they will never offer tips for another product apart from their avast boss, ccleaner has taking very desperate decisions since their own sale. The performance that you can get by optimizing with their softwasher, today is almost imperceptible.

Any screenshots of these "recommendation"? Are they different per Windows editions (ie. 7 vs 10)?

I still use it, because it's the only program that can fully clean all cookies and site data on Google Chrome and make exceptions for for example MalwareTips.
THIS! I didn't find any cleaner that has cookie exceptions like CCleaner. Although I don't clean cookies often and I mostly use browser's default cleaning option, when I'm cleaning cookies, I have to use CCleaner Portable otherwise all cookies will be deleted.

Precisely! I use Edge as my 2nd browser and this is only thing I know of that cleans it . And the exceptions of course in all browsers. But, I do prefer BleachBit since it tends to be less troublesome. Just no Edge support yet. Supposed to be in the works.....

I don't care about them promoting avast, it is business, not charity.
I dont care comparing it to other cleaners, it is still complementary, it still clean 100+mb on my system and its reg cleaners is the rare one that doesn't mess up your system.

So i still use it because it is still useful.

Any alternative to CCleaner? I'm still running V5.38 atm. How can you check that Avast got stealth installed during CCleaner installation?

You want the Slim Version (w/o the junk)!
Last I used Portable, it had all the Background Monitoring completely disabled (greyed out). I cannot comment if the Slim build is the same or not. Default installer has it enabled, but limited for unlicensed users.

or anyone can use CCleaner 5.32 and block it from connecting to the internet

I can't find any noticeable improvement from several versions so far
