Well, you just never know who you’ll find on social media these days. Of course there are all kinds of people who you would expect – celebrities, athletes, big-name type people – but there are some organizations and people who you wouldn’t exactly expect to see sending out a tweet and/or a status update. The CIA is one of those organizations. Known for their clandestine mode of operating, the last thing I’d expect them to do is join Twitter, but that’s exactly what they’ve done. And they didn’t stop with Twitter, either – they also set up a verified Facebook page. Yes, it’s true – the super-secret Central Intelligence Agency has entered into the world of social media.

In case you’re wondering the reason behind this, John Brennan, the director of the CIA, had this to say regarding the news: “By expanding to these platforms, CIA will be able to more directly engage with the public and provide information on CIA’s mission, history, and other developments…”

You can see an image of their first tweet in the above photo, and I have to admit it’s pretty classic. Who knew the CIA could even make a joke?

Judging from their gaining over 200,000 followers on their first day on Twitter, people seem pretty eager to follow the spy agency for a change. As a special treat for their followers, they’ll even sometimes show them rare pictures from the CIA Museum which none of us are allowed to visit because of, you know, all the top-secret stuff it supposedly contains. Maybe they’ll tweet a picture of the UFO from Roswell one of these days. (We can hope, right?!)

Are you currently or will you be soon following @CIA? (Maybe you don’t want a follow-back from them). Let us know in the comments section below!

I feel that this in fact is a move towards getting closer to people. For security and government agencies coming to social platform, they are more accessible to the common people if other wise they have some other plans and intentions.
