The CIA website at cia.gov was inaccessible a few hours ago, after having apparently fallen foul of a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack by hackers.

Almost inevitably, fingers are pointing towards the notorious LulzSec hacktivist group who have made a name for themselves recently with a series of attacks against corporations, organisations and websites - sometimes forcing them offline, and on other occasions stealing personal information by exploiting security flaws.

A post to LulzSec's Twitter feed appears to confirm their participation in the attack:

I do think that a "bank network" has a lot more security that a simple website...Also their data is kept on multiple servers to prevent any kind of hacking. It's really hard to hack a "bank network and collect the thousands of millions" , LulzSec could DDoS a bank website(which is not a big deal) , but I don't think they will ever manage to access the customers/bank private data.
Also If you start hacking for the money....their will be a few people looking for you .. like CIA,FBI and others:p.

If LulzSec suddenly goes quiet he/they has probably been picked up by secret airplanes.
