CoinVault is a new ransomware from the same family as CryptoGraphic Locker. Once infected, CoinVault will encrypt all of your data files and then demand a .7 bitcoin ransom to decrypt your files. If you do not pay the ransom within 24 hours, the ransom price will increase. It is strongly advised that you do not pay the ransom and instead try to restore your files from backups or Shadow Volume Copies.

This world is becoming a very scary place
Well, from all this bad, the good part is that the users can actually use Shadow Explore to recover some of their documents back. What is "bad" is the fact that this type of ransomware are becoming more and more common... I don't know how would I react if one day all my pictures and documents would be encrypted and a guys was asking money to get them back... One thing is for sure, I WOULD NOT PAY.

I'm pretty sure that the cyber criminals who spread this type of malware will be eventually be caught by the FBI or EUROPOL and will face many years of prison.

Even when i was running windows, i backed up everything "personal" on a daily basis. If i uploaded pictures from my camera, i would immediately get out a flash drive, and right click those pics and make copies to transfer off the system. The same with notes and documents.
This does away with the need to worry.

Good back to basics advice here about backing up your data.

I would only add that using Sandboxie for web browser protection and for opening programs with should deal with these types of attack.

Trust no program as it says on the tin.
