Much of the news about Microsoft's takedown of the Rustock botnet last week had to do with the impact on spam. Rustock, it was said, was a major—maybe the major—spam source for the world. Or maybe it wasn't.
This report from Threatpost is typical: Citing an IBM Internet Security Systems report, it reports "... a sustained drop off of between 35% and 40% in global spam levels almost a week after..." the takedown. IBM has some great charts on a blog of their own.
