App Review Does free antivirus sofware stop ransomware?

It is advised to take all reviews with a grain of salt. In extreme cases some reviews use dramatization for entertainment purposes.

actually avira has a great signature which can protect novice users against common, old types of ransomwares
However, it may show some ineffectiveness against new, unidentified or more sophisticated types of ransomwares. This is why he mentioned should use layered protection -> good point

His reviews always focus on novice/unexperienced users

I heard this many times about Avira that may not good to protect against new threats. what makes Avira look so weak for new threats?

I think. Avira almost doesn't have a module to protect against new threats. It mostly uses it great signature but this method is outdated today

Well Avira by itself is too weak in future threats since no BB even HIPS. Their APC is inconsistent on the other hand, thus signatures become their overall 'overrated' investment.

At least for Avast, AVG and BD free products are already supplemented.

found this, it means Avira has BB, doesnt it? and about HIPS, why Avira removed it if it's really important for zero day protection?? o_Oo_O

@novocaine: Well way back, Avira implemented BB called ProAktiv however due to certain issues on OS architecture of Windows thus it discontinued.

APC comes with something blend BB detection, but not so active compare on other products; instead cloud detection made the performance.

Look on such detection where its purely signatures/generic/heuristics.
