DrWeb is a Russian company best known for its CureIT disinfection software.
The software never passed one of my tests, despite ideas and approaches that could have been promising...
On this version 2024, DrWeb seems to declare that they have strengthened behavioral protection and 0-day blocking.
Let's take a look.
User interface :
When installing, I don't understand why DrWeb doesn't check its firewall installation box by default!
The interface remains rather austere for me, not very explicit, which may put off novices.
In terms of power consumption, it's light but can slow down Internet traffic during surfing...
Web protection: 8,5/11
DrWeb's Web protection drops...
Several links went undetected, but were blocked by DrWeb's behavioral protection and the Cloud (DPH detection).
Infections are still present, even if DrWeb partially blocks the last URL...
Fake crack : 0,75/1
The 2 files are blocked but a CPL passes the protection, using rundll32.exe ..
Malware Pack : Remaining 48 files out of 208.
DrWeb has put a lot of effort into behavioral protection, and is now much more reactive than before.
Unfortunately, however, it is still lagging behind, as some infections are still able to pass through without being blocked.
The anti-malware engine, on the other hand, is in complete decline!
DrWeb doesn't recognize several samples, and it's even worse for scripts because AgentTesla and GuLoader are present...
Efforts yes, but insufficient!
Final scan :
DrWeb : 0
NPE : 9
Malwarebytes : 23
KVRT : 10 (Infection Memory)
Final opinion:
DrWeb is an antivirus that's still building on its reputation of yesteryear.
The product tries to evolve, tries to provide improvements, but unfortunately remains hemmed in by past glory.
I'd like to highlight the great efforts made in behavioral protection, but it's still rather limited.
But DrWeb is paying for this progress with a regression in its anti-malware base and Web filtering, which is unforgivable.
DrWeb is still not recommended.
