I have been suffering from cursor slowdowns leading to freezes, so I looked up my HP laptop mouse driver on IObit Driver Booster and the free DUMo version I have through SyMenu. Driver Booster offered up the next-to-latest driver, whereas DUMo free told me what the latest driver is.

Then I googled from the KC Software page (I normally DuckDuck Go). I don't see any indication I can get it from the manufacturer (Synaptic) page. One search result is the Microsoft Update Catalog. But I have heard it is not a good idea to get third-party drivers through Windows. Am I right therefore to spurn the Microsoft Update Catalog?

It's okay to download drivers from Microsoft. But first, I would check to see if HP provide a newer touchpad driver.
