E3 is almost upon us. With a number of pre-event conferences taking place this coming Sunday, there are only a few days left before we discover which big games are unveiled this year. We know for certain that Watch Dogs 2 will make an appearance, and rumors suggest that Wolfenstein: The New Order 2, Dead Rising 4, The Evil Within 2, and the long-awaited Prey 2 are some of the other titles set to be revealed.
Bethesda is one of the companies holding its E3 briefing this Sunday, where it’s rumored to be announcing sequels to Wolfenstein: The New Order - confirmed to exist after a voice actress revealed she was working on the game - and The Evil Within. Plus, seeing as Bethesda mentioned it in a job posting last month, might there be talk of a rebooted Quake?
An industry insider claims that Prey 2 will also be on show. The game had been in development for years before Bethesda officially canceled it in 2014, but some say that it has been completely rebuilt by Dishonored developer Arkane, and that it won’t actually be called “Prey 2”
The same insider says that Bethesda will be revealing an Xbox One and PS4 remaster of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, which will contain "mods, all DLC [and] improved visuals.”
Away from Bethesda, a fourth installment in the Dead Rising series is expected to be revealed at E3. ThisGenGaming recently posted (blurry) images showing the game, which, if they’re to be believed, reveal that original protagonist Frank West is returning to the series.
The next installment in the zombie franchise is supposedly set in Willamette, Colorado – the same location as the first title – lending credence to the rumors that it will essentially be a modern remake of Dead Rising 1.
It was recently reported that GTA developer Rockstar Games was working on new projects. The news came via Take-Two’s earnings report, which referenced Rockstar’s “exciting future projects that will be revealed soon.” While work on GTA 6 has already started, it’s still in the early stages of development, and GTA online continues to be a cash cow for Take Two, so don't expect any to hear about the sixth game at the conference. But if Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t unveiled, I’ll be quite surprised.
Some other potential E3 titles include the new Legend of Zelda game (definitely), Mass Effect: Andromeda (highly likely), and Beyond Good and Evil 2 (wishful thinking). But this year’s event may be more about the hardware than the games
Nintendo has said that its NX console, due for release next year, won’t be at E3, but expect to see the Playstation Neo and Xbox Scorpio – along with possible other variations of the consoles - to be the biggest talking points of the show.
