eScan is an Indian antivirus that is beginning to make a name for itself in the IT security world.
Well-known in the enterprise sector, eScan still offers software for home users.
eScan uses 2 engines: Bitdefender and its proprietary engine.
One thing that particularly surprised me was that, despite a fiber-optic line, eScan took 43 minutes to update, which is a very long time!

User interface :
The main interface is fairly clear and colorful, but the configuration lacks color, reminiscent of old-school interfaces à la Windows 95/98 .
The software is fairly well configured by default, so much so that I was surprised that after installation, its anti-spam, firewall and cloud modules were deactivated... I activated them before testing.

In terms of RAM consumption, eScan is quite greedy and several disk impacts were felt...

Web protection: 13/14
eScan's powerful Web filtering is based on that of Bitdefender.
Malware has passed.

Fake crack : 1/1
eScan detected the file before I ran it using the Bitdefender engine.

Malware Pack : Remaining 19 files out of 110.
eScan is very fast at analyzing and dealing with threats.
I've seen positive developments on unknown threats to counter them. eScan has several times reacted well to avoid the worst.
However, it still needs to do more to block process injections by certain Trojans.
It's well on the way.

Final scan :
eScan : 0
Malwarebytes : 10
NPE : 3
KVRT : 5 (Infection Memory !! )

Final opinion:

eScan is an antivirus that has evolved and strengthened its protection.
It has become a good student and has protected the machine as well as it could.
More needs to be done to block unknown malware, as one Trojan managed to inject a process into memory.
However, 2 problems I encountered also lower the score:
- eScan is rather heavy, which can slow down the computer
- KVRT detected 2 eScan files as infected... I'm thinking of a false positive, but one that may panic users.
Nevertheless, eScan is an antivirus that's making progress, and I hope it continues to do so.
Recommended for cautious use on the Internet.

Thanks for your comprehensive review of eScan Internet Security Suite 2024. It's great to see that eScan is making strides in the IT security world. I agree that the long update time and high RAM consumption could be issues for some users. The false positive detection might indeed cause panic among users and should be addressed. Your recommendation for cautious use is noted. Let's hope eScan continues to improve.

The whole interface looks very ancient and developed in someone’s bedroom, in between rearranging their wardrobe. Very unprofessional vibe. Also, majority of the protection features come through the integration of Bitdefender, very little proprietary technology going on. I didn’t see the settings very well but saw some “enable code analysis” which @Shadowra activated (off by default, as it probably affects performance way too much). All in all, I personally would pass.

Honestly that is a nice improvement over the past versions. It was ALWAYS heavy, I recall testing it back in early 2K and it also was dual engine but very heavy. BTW I would be cautious with this software. It doesn't seem to go through a good debugging before deployment. Just recently the updater was used as part of an Adversary-in-the-Middle attack to spread crypto miners and backdoor trojans.

@Shadowra Thank you so much dear ❤️❤️❤️ after your next K7 test, I'll try K7 on my system. ESET is still my favourite & it's BEST I think.

I've been using ESET (NOD32) since the 90's and it only has dissapointed me twice but that was during the era of BoClean so those who know, know that it was the wild wild west. I will still continue to use it. It's nice, clean and it's UI is perfect for a tweaker like me. :)

Any specific reason you used the older version 14 for the test? The newer version is 22 and there have been a lot of improvements

Nobody even in India uses this. At least I've never seen anyone using this dead piece of software. Quick heal is good. It has a good detection rate too apart from a lot of false positives but it's tolerable. Quick Heal has a good hold on Indian market. Same goes for K7 too.
Hi Abhishek, may I know the source from where you identified that no one in India uses this? It's seriously a shame that Indians like you do not back such a great software that in my view is easily one of the top 4 antiviruses

Besides, comparing Quick heal with eScan is a clear insult to eScan's in-house technologies; it doesn't even come close

@Shadowra In line with the MD5 hash of KKM, it is detected by eScan because of the Bitdefender SDK and am not sure why it was not detected in your case; one of the other files that was detected by Kaspersky was part of eScan

If you still have those undetected files or the hashes of those files with you, I would request if they can be shared and I will check

However, it has been downloaded from the official website...
If you have the file directly, send it to me and I'll schedule a test.
