External HDD Placement

I attach external HDD to TV to watch movies. The cord is little short so I place HDD in vertical position.
Is it fine or not to place external HDD in vertical position?

According to the manufacturers , an HDD works on all axes of orientation, then there is no problem, one thing that normally can damage the hard disk is the temperature but it's not your case.

There should be no problem on that case, as long the HDD must not be damage by dropping or any forms of breakage.

Even let say many bad sectors occurred on that HDD, it can still operate no matter what.
