While on travel, received a frantic call from my wife that her computer was running continuously...and that she couldn't get it to respond to any of her commands. When I got home, we discovered that explorer.exe had multiple occurances. W\when I disconnected from the internet, I could kill each of these processes and it wouldn't ramp up again. She already had run AVG anti-virus. We ran the updates for Windows. I installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware...ran it. It found a bunch of offending stuff, including a Trojan.Downloader.ED. This still did not solve the problem, so I googled further and learned that I needed to install some sort of root killer. So I installed and ran Kaspersky's TDSSKiller.
After this, explorer.exe stopped duplicating.
This morning, she found that dllhost.exe*32 duplicating processes. It seems that fighting this is above my paygrade...and so I'm hoping that you can help.
