Mozilla seems to be determined to release new versions of the Firefox web browser at a rapid pace. This week the MozillaWiki web site announced that Firefox 6 will enter into beta phase on Tuesday, July 5. The beta release comes just a few weeks after Mozilla officially released the final version of Firefox 5 under its new rapid development program. Not only is Firefox 6 going into beta on July 5 but the next version of the software, Firefox 7 will be made available in the Aurora testing section on the same day. The Aurora channel is basically one meant mostly for developers with the software not as stable as that of a beta release.

so fast update from firefox ;)
until now, i still use firefox 4.0.1
:D

Seems that very fast roadmap, then probably next year 2012 the version of FF will be in 10.

So we should expect another maintenance release...like version 5 was.
Mozilla rapid development program is actually a very good idea, the main problem that I and most of the users see is the simple fact that Mozilla is using the "big numbers" on every release. Why?This mainly a marketing trick as with every "major" release all the sites will dedicate large articles on the subject.A 5.1 version would be much more fair ;) .

I think they definitely caught the Chrome numbering methodology... :(

I've been wondering how high the Chrome numbers are going to go before they realize it just looks stupid and start calling each release by a name instead. Instead of Chrome 33, we'll have Chrome Legacy... :P

Hopefully in that version 6 a new feature of PDF render is exist (counterpart of Chrome PDF).

My thoughts exactly.

Does Firefox update silently (without notifications of any sort) like Google Chrome?

It depends on what you have set in your update options. You can set it to update automatically if that's what you prefer.

Even if you have it update automatically, it's not exactly silent. It will tell you an update has been downloaded and will be installed when you restart the browser. Even if you miss this message, on the next restart you will see a window that it is installing the update and it will check for updates to your extensions. It then opens to an page that says your browser has been updated.
