Firefox add-on BlockSite and Review-site scams

Wondering about the Firefox add-on "BlockSite". And review-site scams?

I'm not new, but I haven't used Malewaretips a lot. I'm not very intuitive and searching...so I thought I'd re-introduce myself and get some tips. I have made a resolution to "hang out" here more, instead of just coming here when I have a specific need. I got AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME help back in Jan '15--Argus helped me clean up my PC Laptop, getting it from totally disabled to working normally. I'm grateful.

"Blocksite" seemed like a no-brainer, and I was thinking I could trust Firefox add-ons, but apparently not. Some reviews say that wips.com, the developers of the "Blocksite" add-on, sold the company and that the new owners have injected Blocksite with adware, etc. So I googled "review blocksite" etc. and found a jungle! Review site scams? How do I review the review sites? Aaaaargh!

Now I'm curious about how I an safely and efficiently inspect and check out sites before I use them, including review sites--so as to NOT repeat the infection experience that wiped me out in January.

Thanks for the welcomes! I could use some tips on how to use this site. (I'm really terrible at intuitively figuring out things like that!)

For example: I'd like to get some help right now because my laptop performance has been getting bad lately. Where do I go with a generic request for help like that? (While waiting for a reply to this question, I'm going ahead and poking around. Maybe I'll get lucky! That would be a win!)
