Running firefox 138.0 in win10_vm, dns reports as nextdns 144.202.76.165 (dallas), then open private window and use dnscheck.tools and it says nextdns 188.172.251.1 so is this correct? ie, same browser firefox 2 windows, each window has a different dns ip? or perhaps some quirk between dnsleaktest.com and dnscheck.tools??

Yes, it's possible for different windows in Firefox to use different DNS servers, especially if one is a private window. This could be due to Firefox's DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) feature, which can use a different DNS in private browsing. The discrepancy between dnsleaktest.com and dnscheck.tools could also be due to how these services detect DNS servers.
