Good review! If you still have it installed, take a look at Softpedia.com and see if it changes the way the pages are displayed.

Excellent review, but a question is this FortiClient Lite or FortiClient Standard that you did this review on?

They are very different but both have an excellent url blocker.

Thanks.:D

Forticlient Lite and Forticlient are now the same, even though the download may say different, once installed both say Forticlient 5.0.3.246. I tried to just download the Lite version and it always morphs into the standard.

I believe the website has the installers messed up.

FortiClient Lite download links:

forticlientlite1.png

Official link
Cnet Download.com
Softpedia

FortiClient Standard download links:

forticlient1.png

Official link
Softpedia
Cnet Download.com
MajorGeeks

All of their installer packages are online only.

There is no mention of v.5.0.3.246 anywhere that I can find.
If they did release a newer version they did not list it on download sites or post any changes to their website.

Softpedia and MajorGeeks lists v.5.0.0.161 as the current version.

Thanks.:D

They morph into the same AV - download and see what happens....right before your eyes.

I going to install FortiClient Lite in VMware Workstation to test this out.
I will report back later.

Thanks.:D

Forticlient Endpoint protection is primarily for business that related for complex networking features.

So the lite and standard are capable as basic components of security.

Ok I successfully installed FortiClient in my VMware Workstation.
I went through all of the installers available and they all will install "FortiClient". The Lite and Standard versions have magically disappeared without any notifications. Nothing mentioned on their website or forums. They didn't even notify third-party download sites.
You go to download the Lite or Standard and get something else from the online installers. I'm thinking that they have discontinued the Lite and Standard editions and now just make one complete suite just called FortiClient. I guess the only way to find out is to call their support- http://www.fortinet.com/contact_us/index.html . FortiNet has never tried to market their products to home users except for the Lite edition which probably wasn't that successful, even though it was an excellent product. They sell their products to businesses mainly large companies. Therefore they don't seem to care about posting updates for home users but will allow home users to use FortiClient for free without any support.

The current version is 5.0.3.246, I did not give it a complete test run, but it appears to be running smooth in VMware using Windows 8 32-bit.

I didn't notice any decrease in browsing speed using IE10. I ran 15 of the latest malicious url's from Malware Domain List using IE10, SmartScreen blocked all but one of them before FortiClient could get a chance too. The other was blocked by FortiClient. It is a very powerful suite maybe the best since it doesn't seem to have any compatibility problems. However it is for users who have time and want to learn how to configure it. Kind of like Comodo Internet Security Suite but works differently. CIS mainly relies on HIPS and sandboxing whereas FortiClient relies on url proxy filter and application firewall. Its url proxy filter is so good that it is unlikely you would ever need to use the AV module or other components except for the Vulnerability scan. However it is not for novice users or users who just want a simple AV. It is made to be an Endpoint solution for businesses.

I didn't really expect SmartScreen to do that good. However with SmartScreen disabled FortiClient successfully blocked all of the latest 15 malicious links.

Enjoy!!:D

Littlebits, did you notice any slowdown? How would you rate it on that matter?

It was in my review, there was no system slow down!

Did you use a virtual environment or a real system?
Your System Specifications?

Like I said I used it in VMWare Workstation with Windows 8 32-bit only allowed 1GB RAM out of the 4GB installed and 1 Processor out of the 6 on my system.

Host system is Windows 7 x64 SP1
ASUS M4A88T- M motherboard
AMD Phenom II X6 1045T Processor 2.70GHz overclocked to 3.40GHz
Windows Experience Index : 4.9

Running a product in VMWare it will always run slower then running it on a real system, but FortiClient didn't appear to cause the system to run any slower then Windows 8 default security (Windows Defender + Windows Firewall + UAC + SmartScreen). That is only using a single core processor and 1GB RAM. Because I'm sure that it would run much better with more RAM and a multi-core processor.

Thanks.:D

I knew it, and I read your review. I just wanted another opinion.
In my experience it's heavier than avira/avast/avg. My system is core2duo 1.8GHz and 2GB RAM. But I really love it's protection. It's very strong.
