As this site has proved so very useful before and I got some great advice on cleaning my computer, I obviousley don't want to infect it again!

I need to convert some AVI files to MP4 to upload to my itunes on Windows, can anybody recommend a bug & nasty free software please?

Many thanks

I wanted to recommend Freemake Video Converter but it's bundled with toolbars. If you are careful enough to opt them out when installing it would be a great choice.

Other free alternatives that are also good

or even portable version (I have one)

or IceCream Media Converter is also cool

I'm surprised no one mentioned HandBrake: https://handbrake.fr.

In this age, you seldomly need to convert to anything other than MP4 or MKV, using x264 or x265.

An MP4 file using the x264 codec will be read (almost) anywhere.
