No doubt CIS will win this also at it has the most active and enthusiastic community.
I'll vote for MBAM ... Easy installer , powerful product and free removal. :)

My vote goes to CCleaner because it is truly unique in its category.
No other cleaners come close including paid cleaners.

Thanks.:D

I vote Firefox Browser. :)

They made an awesome browser especially customization and some big adjustments. I'm a loyal user for about 4-5 years from now perhaps.

Congratulations, good to see that CCleaner is the one of my favorite Cleaning Utility that does better even before.

Ccleaner is good for starters and advance users too.

Good day.:D

Microsoft Security Essentials on the first place...now that's a surprise...What about Avast Free?
MSE could be the 'Freeware of the year' if we would vote in 2005 ......... Like in the old days , the main line of defense in Microsoft Security Essentials are its definitions, which as we know can be useless against zero day malware. The lack of a powerful heuristic engine or other pro-active components make this AV a very easy target for the cyber criminals , at least in my eyes.

This is actually the second year in a row that Microsoft Security Essentials won the first place.
Probably because it is very simple, not much configuration needed to be very effective. Zero day malware is very rare, I have only got one infection in my lifetime and it was because I installed a infected program (FoxIE browser add-on) recommended by MajorGeeks back in 2005. But that was my fault, I should have did some checking before installing it. It had the NSIS Trojan silent install at the time was not detected by any solution. Of coarse zero day malware have to be manually installed now days, you using common sense will protect you.

Gizmo's Top Freeware Products included many categories not just security software.
Avast got 7% (178 votes) which is still good and did better than most other security software.
Comodo Internet Security got 5% (141 votes) and Malwarebytes only 3% (92 votes).

Avira and AVG wasn't even listed. I was surprised to see Sandboxie listed since it really isn't freeware, it's nagware.

Thanks.:D

Littlebits for a few days before voting time, users nominated programs for best freeware product of the year. Avira and AVG did not get many nominations, that's why they were not included in the list.

Sandboxie was included because users pick it to be included in the list of applications that it could be voted for. Sandboxie is more like a shareware product meaning that it does have a free version and a paid/registered version that gives you a little more. If SBIE did not have a free version, you would not even be allowed to say a word about SBIE in that forum, much less vote for it as best product of the year.

You call the reminder screen and SBIE as nagware but I never saw the reminder screen as a nag when I used the free version. Anyway, I know you don't appreciate what Sandboxie does for the people that use it since you have never used it(to me, using SBIE for 5 days or 3 months is like never using it), maybe that's why you call SBIE nagware but I am pretty sure that most people that use SBIEs free version don't care about the screen, all they care is about the top notch protection that they get while paying nothing for it.

For what is worth, paying for my SBIE license is the best money that I ever spend in the Internet, nothing comes close. Nothing.

I didn't mean to say anything bad about Sandboxie, I know it is an excellent software and a favorite of many users. It was listed on Softpedia and MajorGeeks as "Nagware", but it now says "Freeware" on MajorGeeks and I contacted Softpedia and they remove the nagware tab as well and change it to "30 days trial" is this correct or not?

Anyway at one time of another Sandboxie must have been more aggressive at displaying buy now notifications for download sites to add the nagware tag. I believe most Sandboxie users are using a paid version or a cracked version and never get to see the notifications. Of coarse it is worth the money to buy it, if you're one who needs it. But is it really freeware? some users and download sites don't think it is. But since it is very popular among users, they may have ignore the fact if it is freeware or not and voted it in.

Thanks.:D

Littlebits, Sandboxie is not a "30 days trial" software. The free version can be used forever and like I said earlier, the difference between the paid and free version is that some features are added in the paid version. Please, take a look at the first 2 FAQ about licensing and the answers.
http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?FAQ_Licensing

About the "reminder to purchase" screen. Its only on for the first 5 seconds after the user starts using SBIE. Next time the user sees the screen again is after the PC is rebooted. I dont think thats bad. I never minded it and personally, I felt the same when I used other software that displayed something alike, like Avira free for example.

Greetings
Bo
