I had to use an app called QubeWire to upload my films to a film festival.

Films are under 25 GB. However since it was taking too long, I checked Glasswire for uploaded data and it turns out over 150GB of data has gone out of my system. All through Qubewire.

It uses UDP, (whatever that means) but how come so much more data had to leave my system!!!!

Please shed some light on it.

Thanks

QubeWire might be re-uploading your files due to some error or it might be compressing and then uploading the files, resulting in more data being used. UDP (User Datagram Protocol) is a type of internet protocol that's faster but less reliable, so it might also be sending duplicate data. It's not necessarily malware, but you should reach out to QubeWire's support for clarification.

I was hoping to hear from a human. Anyone?

I've contacted QubeWire but also want other opinions please.

The app is one of those that has small initial exe which then download and installs directly from net so I'm not sure Virustotal would help.

I need someone who knows a bit about how networking works etc. please.

UDP can be pretty fast, but oddly so much extra data was uploaded. This might be due to how QubeWire handles data, such as retransmissions if packets are lost or corrupted. Maybe the app is trying to ensure the highest quality upload by sending redundant data. It could also be some kind of bug. I'd reach out to their support to get more details.

Have you properly scanned your system for malware if this is your concern?
Yes Malwarebytes and I have an antivirus installed. But is there a chance of deep undetectable installation, since I did execute the installation?

What was QubeWire's response?
Re: Contact-Us | SUPPORT | Qube

Did the files upload complete, or still having issues?

How many films were queued for upload?
Yes, they have said they are investigating, a couple of times I've asked them now. There were two films under 25 GB.

The connection did seem to be getting lost and regained quite frequently according to the notification on their app. Although, my internet browsing was fine and I saw no interruption.

First off, what is the total size of films that you intended to upload?

Do you have reliable networking or a network that is susceptible to highly variable upload speeds or will be throttled by your ISP? Large size files cause issues from your router all the way to the target server. Large file size uploads are typically slow and prone to multiple errors. The lower the QoS of your network, the greater the number of errors.

I am going to guess that you do not have top QoS network with a high upload\download speed. If you have a village level network then it is probably metered. To definitively figure out that it was a network issue would require much, much, much more infos and direct access to the network.

The slowness of the upload makes sense because many times large file uploads are not handled well by a network or deliberately throttled, but that does not account for the total amount of data uploaded. You have to get with QubeWire support and sort that out. It could be a simple counter error or something else.

Have you looked for any QubeWire logs?

But is there a chance of deep undetectable installation, since I did execute the installation?
Probably not. This is not the place to investigate that.

As mention earlier, Films are under 25 GB.

I can upload GBs of data in minutes on sites like sendbig.

TOTAL amount of data (160 GB) is my BIG concern.

Yes, I've shared logs with QubewIre, awaiting to hear from them, but I'm also wondering if the company can be trusted to be transparent.
