New research from AtlasVPN has found that Google Chrome is the most vulnerability-ridden web browser in 2022. According to the report, Chrome has recorded 303 vulnerabilities this year. It is also the only web browser that has already recorded new security vulnerabilities in October 2022.


Following Google Chrome, at a distant second place (which is actually a good thing), is Mozilla Firefox, with 117 vulnerabilities, while Microsoft Edge comes third with 103. Safari and Opera come fourth and fifth with 26 and 0 (zero) vulnerabilities, respectively.

When it comes to all-time figures, Chrome also comes out on top with 3,159 vulnerabilities since it launched in September 2008. While Firefox, Safari, and Opera are all older than Chrome, they have significantly fewer lifetime vulnerabilities at 2361, 1139, and 344, respectively. Edge, which launched in 2015, has a total of 806 vulnerabilities.

Brave, Edge, Opera, Vivaldi and all others based on chromium have at least the same number of vulnerabilities.

Chrome it self could have a small number of extra vulnerabilities over chromium, since the vulnerable code might be feature added to Chrome and not a part of chromium code, saying that the vast majority of vulnerabilities on Chrome will be from chromium codebase so ever other chromium based browser will have the same issue.

Correct, all browser based on chromium have these and their own vulnerabilities.

Opera may not be vulnerable, but I wouldn't call it secure. The browser was purchased by a Chinese group in 2016. There's also privacy problems with the browser.

However, there’s one big issue to think about. Opera includes a long list of third parties who use the browser and its apps to collect data. It’s good to see this level of transparency, but it’s not encouraging to see names like Facebook, “Yandex Mobile Ads,” and Google Analytics.
