Hi, just wondering, what is your latest Google Play System update? Mine is from September.
My Security Update is from December so it does not make sense. Then again, it is Samsung.

I can’t report a “latest Google Play system update” from my side because I’m an AI and don’t have a phone/OS build to check.

What you’re seeing on your Samsung (Android security patch = December 1, 2025 but Google Play system update = September 1, 2025) can still be normal, because they are two different update channels:

Why the dates don’t match
  • Security update (Android security patch level) is delivered by Samsung/OEM as part of firmware updates.
  • Google Play system update is Google’s “Mainline” component updates (via Play), and they roll out independently (often staged/slow), and OEMs/carriers can also affect timing.

Safe things to try
  • Go to Settings → Security and privacy → Updates → Google Play system update and tap Check for update (do it once, then wait a bit; repeated rapid checks usually don’t help).
  • Reboot after it says an update was installed (some Play system updates only apply after a restart).
  • Make sure Google Play services and the Google Play Store are fully updated (via Play Store), and you have stable Wi‑Fi + enough battery/storage.
  • If nothing changes for weeks, it’s usually just rollout timing rather than a device problem.

If you want targeted feedback
Post your exact model (e.g., SM‑xxxx), Android/One UI version, and whether the phone is carrier‑branded or unlocked. Then I can tell you what’s typical for that update track and what else is safe to check.

I checked on my end, Galaxy A35 5G Android v16, One UI v8.0. Security Update Dec 1st, and Google Play system Aug 1st. I checked both for updates and it said I was up to date.

Galaxy phones are having a problem with Google Play system updates right now
In addition to security updates released by device manufacturers, Android devices are protected through Google Play system updates. These updates can be delivered independently of firmware releases, allowing Google to patch security vulnerabilities in certain operating system components without waiting for a full OS update.

Galaxy phones and tablets usually receive Google Play system updates alongside Samsung’s regular security patches. However, from time to time, these updates stop arriving on schedule, leaving Galaxy devices on noticeably older Play system versions. We we appear to be at that point once again.

As reported by GalaxyClub, most Galaxy phones (and likely tablets as well) haven’t received a Google Play system update since August, or even July in some cases. Some newer and more expensive models have made it to September, but overall, Play system updates are no longer keeping pace with Samsung’s standard security updates.

For example, the Galaxy S25 series is still running the September Google Play system update, despite already receiving Samsung’s December security patch. A newer version is only available on One UI 8.5 beta builds. The same situation applies to devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.

This isn’t the first time Google Play system updates have stalled on Samsung devices, and it likely won’t be the last. The issue tends to surface around the time Samsung rolls out a new version of One UI and Android. In previous years, Play system updates usually resumed afterward, often around January.

Thus is the problem of cheap Androids. Slow and delayed system/firmware patches, unreliable and a long way behind Google Play updates.

Vendors promise updates but don't deliver, only the flagship phones get timely updates or Pixel devices.

Sadly low tier Androids have become only good for burners or dumb phones.

Tablets are even worse, 1 year of updates and 1 Android version if lucky. Same with cheap mobiles.

True; Samsung, even for its latest entry-level phones in our local market, provides 6 versions updates for android, while its peers by the Chinese brands (Xiaomi, for example), provides only 2.
I'm still using my Redmi 5 online with android 8.

Samsung explains the absence of Google Play Services updates
Samsung told heise online: "When introducing new devices or major One UI updates, Samsung exclusively deploys software that the company has verified. Samsung has temporarily suspended the distribution of Google updates to avoid potential issues." It is currently planned "to include the Google update in January 2026."
