Google sells off SketchUp to Trimble

Last week, Google announced it was shutting down a number of its internal projects, continuing a trend that has seen the company close quite a few of its operations over the past year. Today, Google revealed that it's getting rid of yet another of its properties, but this time it's being sold off instead of shut down.

The project is SketchUp, the popular 3D modeling tool that Google acquired back in 2006. Today, Trimble announced it has bought SketchUp and its development team. The specific financial terms were not disclosed.

Where can we download previous versions, will it remain free?

Filehippo always offers older versions of software, just select your specified version from the sidebar on the right of the page. Download from Filehippo: http://filehippo.com/download_google_sketchup/

So in this case the latest google version is 8.0.11752 :)

Of course they will have it. It will be there but they won't be putting anymore updates or versions out.

Sad to see that they have given up Sketch-up. I used them previously but was too entangled with CAD that I leaned on it more. There's also GIMP and Blender which are freeware but not user friendly enough....
