The mother, only known as Jennifer, described the situation as her "worst nightmare" and says she feels as though she has "failed".

The private webcam, aimed at the beds of her two eight-year-old girls, was intended to keep a watchful eye over them but it had been hacked and the live footage was open for anyone to view.

Thanks for the share :)

I think this mother let the camera also the night, as she was "recording", certainly to be able to watch the video in case of problem.

A private webcam like the mother used has to be offline or in a private network, not on a PC connected to internet
That's why everyone recommends to shut down their PC when not in use. I am suprised why both sister's didn't notice white/green light when webcam is ON during night time.
A Hacker (not only) can disable the camera's LED light if he successfully has remote access to the PC :)

Sometimes we should not rely too much on the technology.

If still insist to use webcam or any camera related products, make sure you use locally without any internet connection.

Remember hacks occur through networks so of course any slip configuration may occur.
