There are three unavoidable certainties in life: Death, Taxes and Hard Disk Drive Failures.

Some questions, so people can share the know-how :)

1. How healthy is your hard drive?

2. HDD age? or How old is your PC? or Power on time?

3. What would you use to predict hardware failure? or How do you know your HDD is going to fail?

4. What's your plan of action?

I'll start:

1. 60% health (in Acronis Drive Monitor) / 94% (in HDD Sentinel)

2. 4 years / Power on time: 859 days

3. HDD was taking too long to boot and sometimes I would hear my HDDs arms making weird cranky noises

4. Backup on external HDD and Blu-rays (wish they were cheaper)

I use Acronis Drive Monitor (a free tool that helps monitor your hard drive, and prevent data loss).

for me:

1. I dont know about health for sure, because dont have any software to check it

2. This HDD was almost 3 years, mostly used for games

3. Nothing, because it seems work perfectly fine

4. Backup on EX HDD 2TB

1) All my hard drives are healthy.

2) 1 year old SSD and HDD, My PC is 1 year old, and I don't even care about power time for real.

3) If the hard drive not showing up on my explorer folder, and making way too many noises.

4) I only installed games on my hard drives, so I just going to reinstall it on a new hard drive if this one decided to die.

1) All my hard drives are cool 100% health from Acronis drive monitor

2) Power on time 343 days

3) Weird noises, freezes; slow booting.

4) Backup HDD

4:I have several backups of important files, mainly travel photos etc!!

1) Still 100% based on HD Sentinel where I've conducted operations last year, no plans yet to re-test as its still a young laptop (2 years) without any damages.

2) Usually as I'm busy on heavy loads, 3-4 hours straight connected on AC power.

3) If the system suffer system hang and slow read/write speeds in consecutive times.

4) Backup using my external, and provide with system image alongside of purchasing SDD.
