i have trialled zonealarm nextgen av with browser extension. it was horribly heavy on my modest system so i uninstalled it. i cannot remove CHECKPOINT folder from programs nor the browser secure extension. i have tried ZA clean and taking ownership of these objects from permissions as instructed from various ms advice articles on the internet. i have restored to prvious point and used safe mode to remove as well. none of this has worked . i reinstalled windows from update to preserve what files and programs i could. Checkpoint's own removal instructions require an account so i created one . i was then redirectected to another ZA admin site that says my email is not allowed . i'm not even sure that a complete reinstall will cure this. error messages say you need permissions from either/and SYSTEM or administrators . i am an administrator and granting permissions has not worked. should i risk reinstalling ZAnextgen and uninstalling again ? what do you think/ thanks for reading.

It seems like you've tried a lot of methods already. Before reinstalling ZAnextgen, try using a third-party uninstaller like Revo Uninstaller or IObit Uninstaller. They can help remove leftover files and registry entries. If that doesn't work, you could consider a clean reinstall of Windows, but remember to back up your important files first.

@Trident is the MT user with most experience with Checkpoint and ZoneAlarm. fwiw, I recently used ZA_clean after an uninstall on VM and it worked here... fwiw2 I use Harmony (enterprise) on another VM and somewhat heavy but excellent protection and IMO smoother than ZA apps.

If you already contacted ZA, received the specific uninstall tool for NextGen, run it multiple times and still you have issue of folders/files that cannot be removed or permission issues then the only solution that works is to reinstall the OS (preserving your data but removing all installed software). I had a similar issue of permission and the only way to fix it was to clean install the system (which also allowed me to reinstall ZA that could not anymore been installed). Sorry.

In my case I was playing way too much between Harmony and ZA and things got wrong in one of the installing/uninstall processes... finally I settled down with ZA (Harmony requires excessive baby sitting for my taste) but then it was too late. ZA does not play well with issues within the windows registry.

curious... my harmony once initally configured, it just does its thing without me needing to do anything for months at a time.

Well, in my case it started blocking certain communications, so exclusion center... then some apps... exclusion center... Then he decided not to be recognised by "windows security" (no matter what)... etc... I find ZA, still with bugs to iron out, but overall set and forget... Harmony is nice to play with for a while with the portal and the choice of configuration / security but overqualified for what I need :)
