What antenna do I need on my PC to pick up my AT&T wireless internet service? Can I use a Linksys antenna I have been using or do I need an AT&T card of some type?
(They said that my Samsung Galaxy SII will be used in place of a router to achieve my internet connection on my PC.)
Who knows about this?
They said no router is needed and said something about a "hotspot".
Please fill me in.

Found a site that explains a little bit:
Mobile broadband coverage not available in all areas. Devices connected to your Mobile Hotspot use data from your DataPro 5 GB plan. The number of Wi-Fi devices you can connect depends on your device. Performance may vary depending on the number of devices connected and other factors. If you do not use a password, others will be able to use your Mobile Hotspot connection.

it is called "anchor a mobile phone" , you will use your phone as modem and your data plan as a internet provider

RE: How do I connect my PC to the internet via my AT&T Galaxy?

It is clearer to me after some research:

Tethering

Tethering refers to the practice of using a mobile phone or other portable Internet-ready device to gain Internet access for another device. For example, a mobile phone could be used outdoors as a modem for a laptop computer to gain access to the Internet. Generally, the phone or other portable wireless device is connected to other equipment via a USB cable, or wirelessly if they both support Bluetooth.

A PDA, for example, could gain Internet access from a mobile phone through a Bluetooth connection. In some cases, tethering with a mobile phone might void a phone's warranty ot violate terms of service given by a mobile service plan. A user unaware of data charges could also generate a very large data usage bill by using a mobile phone with a laptop computer to gain proper Internet access.

An example of where tethering has become a controversial issue is its inclusion in the Apple iPhone 3.0 firmware. It's possible usage with an iPhone is not the problem, but at the time of iPhone 3.0's release, it's sole carrier in the United States, AT&T, decided to delay its usage on the network. It emerged later that the bandwidth usage from iPhone users was already 10 times more than that of the average Smartphone user, and AT&T had spent billions of dollars upgrading its 3G network to simply keep up with demand.

It seems that I will need to upgrade to an 802.11U wireless antenna on my PC.

Easy tether for Android works very well.I use it on my laptop where there is no wifi.I just use my charging cable from my Galaxy S3 into the USB port and I am good to go.You can also mask the amount of data you are using in case you dont have unlimited data usage.I have never used it wireless yet.

Download the App for your phone and then download the program for your PC OS

It is good to know this. Tell me more if you can.
I was really ticked off to find that there IS a data cap. If masking works, it will be the only thing that keeps me from backing out of the plan after the 30 day trial period.
My local ISP allows for unlimited, but the service has deteriorated considerabley in the last several months (I think because people are letting their I-phones utilize the ISP router instead of locking them out and forcing them to use the ATT and Sprint cell tower like they should). It has gotten ridiculous; I click to go from this site to google.com at midnight and there is a 3 or 4 second delay before goolge's page is displayed. I can here the connection constantly cutting on Pandora radio during high traffic times throughout the day. That is terrible. The tower is barely in range anyway.
It just irks the heck out of me about the data cap at ATT.

RE: How do I connect my PC to the internet via my AT&T Galaxy?

Certain carriers look for excessive usage and block tethering. You can hide your usage from them within the program but I think that is only with the pay version. There is an easy tether lite version which has less features and does not let you go to secure sites such as banking ect.I used to use PdaNet when I had my iPhone but it wasnt available now on android so I am using easy tether.I use the full version because I need to get on secure sites when using it every so often

So the paid version of "EasyTether" can accomplish this?

Sorry, my question was about which version of Android is it, I did not explain my question well. :)

I think you are asking about how to make your Android device act as a router for other devices? If yes, then follow this:

Depending on your OS version, there are slightly different steps to enable it.

1. Go to Settings
2. Wireless and networks > WiFi Settings
Or
Under Wireless and Networks, go to More Settings...
3. I believe there is Tethering and Portable Hotspot.
4. There is Portable WiFi Hotspot, tap on it.
5. Configure it (SSID, Security) and then enable it.

My experience with it:
1. Works very well with other Android Devices.
2. With my Windows 7 laptop, it fails to connect to the hotspot the first one or two times, but then it works. I have to keep my phone very near to it when it is connecting to the hotspot. Probably to the weak wifi card of my galaxy Mini 2
3. Never worked with my sisters PCLinuxOS.

Note: if you are having ICS (Android 4.0.x) or beyond, there is an option under Wireless and networks to limit the data usage. Like if I set it to limit the usage after 2GB of data has been consumed, it will disconnect. It does not only measure data downloaded only from that device but from all devices connected to the hotspot.

A maximum of 8 devices can be connected to the hotspot.

RE: How do I connect my PC to the internet via my AT&T Galaxy?

So, here is the deal; I now want to tether to my laptop from my I-Phone 4, and mask usage if possible (I sent the Galaxy back and canceled new plan due to a 4Gig data cap with a 20 dollar per Gig penalty for exceeding that amount), Any suggestions? PdaNet?

PdaNet.I used it for a very long time and had license for both iPhone as well as Android. When I went back to Android Sprint must have blocked it from the Google Play store so I found the download and was able to use my license for it again.I used it the whole time when I was out of town for the holidays. The free version doesnt let you on secure sites however the pay version does and you can also hide your tether usage within the settings.I am not sure if hiding tether usage is available in the free version but it is most definitley worth the money for the paid version.I forget how much but think it is around $10-15.PdaNet is by far the best one I have used.I have an unlimited data plan so I would make sure the tether usage is blocked for sure if your going to be penalized for it

They have both Android and iOS versions available

Here is the link to install on your PC http://junefabrics.com/android/

You can go to your browser on your phone and enter this link http://junefabrics.com/android/ to install it on your phone.

You can search for it in the Google Play Store but Sprint blocks me from downloading it there.

Install it on your PC & Phone

then enable USB debugging on your phone

plug in your phone to your Pc and click connect on the phone tray icon on your PC
