Note: The trick works on one condition. We must make sure that Windows 8 Release Preview has been previously activated. If you have not done, then try to add new functionality will fail. Windows 8 Release Preview activate with a universal key of the form: TK8TP-9JN6P-7X7WW-RFFTV-B7QPF.

Great guide. Even though I don't see why you have to use Media Centre.

Great guide.

But I won't be using or need WMC. Wasn't WMC introduced with Windows XP?

Correct. It was introduced in the Windows XP Media Centre Edition.

I read on Wikipedia:

Windows 8's WMP does not have DVD playback, but to play DVDs you need WMC which will obviously be an add-on/extra. Might be in the W8Pro only?

From this blog post by Microsoft: if you buy Win8 Pro you'll also have to acquire Windows 8 Media Center Pack or Windows 8 Pro Pack to get Media Center.

Never really used Windows Media Centre in the other versions of Windows, so what's so special about Windows 8 Media Centre?

Anyway there is VLC, which solves the problem for free.
